Terms of Use & Community Guidelines
NeighborLink is a community-help platform designed to make it easier for neighbors to request help, volunteer, and support one another.
Our Community Principles
1. Acceptance of These Terms
By creating an account or using NeighborLink, you agree to follow these Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.
If you do not agree with these terms, you should not use NeighborLink.
2. Purpose of NeighborLink
NeighborLink exists to help people within communities connect for ordinary community assistance and volunteer activities.
Examples may include:
- Helping an elderly neighbor with a small household task.
- Providing transportation or errands when appropriate.
- Helping with yard work or simple chores.
- Connecting volunteers with community service opportunities.
- Helping members of churches, schools, neighborhoods, senior centers, nonprofit organizations, and similar groups.
NeighborLink is not intended to replace emergency services, professional medical care, licensed contractors, law enforcement, or other professional services when those services are required.
3. Emergencies
NeighborLink is not an emergency service.
Do not use NeighborLink to report an immediate medical emergency, fire, crime in progress, threat of violence, or other urgent danger. In the United States, call 911 for emergencies.
4. Your Responsibilities
When using NeighborLink, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information about yourself and your requests.
- Keep your account credentials private.
- Use NeighborLink only for lawful, community-appropriate purposes.
- Communicate respectfully with other users.
- Respect another person's decision to decline a request or volunteer opportunity.
- Protect personal information learned through the platform.
- Follow the rules of any community or organization in which you participate.
5. Volunteer Activities
Volunteering through NeighborLink is voluntary. Users should only offer services they are comfortable and capable of providing safely.
Volunteers should not accept tasks that require professional licensing, specialized training, dangerous equipment, or expertise they do not have.
Users are responsible for deciding whether they are comfortable meeting or working with another person.
6. Community Verification and User Screening
NeighborLink may allow community administrators to mark members as Community Verified.
Community verification means that an administrator of that specific community has recognized or confirmed the person's connection to the community according to that community's own practices.
Users should not treat a verification badge as a guarantee that another person is safe, qualified, trustworthy, or appropriate for every type of activity.
7. Community Administrators
Community administrators may review membership requests, approve or reject members, manage community verification, and review certain volunteer activity associated with their community.
Administrators agree to use these tools responsibly and only for legitimate community purposes.
Administrators should not misuse private information, verification notes, membership information, or volunteer records.
8. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use NeighborLink to:
- Threaten, harass, stalk, intimidate, or abuse another person.
- Discriminate against or target others in violation of applicable law.
- Post knowingly false, fraudulent, or misleading requests.
- Impersonate another person or organization.
- Solicit passwords, Social Security numbers, banking information, or other unnecessary sensitive information.
- Use NeighborLink to sell illegal goods or services.
- Arrange dangerous, illegal, exploitative, or inappropriate activities.
- Spam, advertise unrelated commercial services, or repeatedly contact users who have asked you to stop.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to another account or to NeighborLink systems.
- Collect or publish another user's private contact or location information without a legitimate purpose or permission.
9. Community and Safety Information
NeighborLink may support community notices or safety-related information.
Such information should be factual, community-focused, and intended to help people stay informed.
NeighborLink should not be used for vigilantism, public accusations, harassment, identifying alleged suspects, or encouraging users to confront people.
Emergencies and suspected criminal activity should be reported to the appropriate public authorities.
10. Privacy and Personal Information
Users must respect the privacy of other NeighborLink members.
Information learned through a help request, volunteer arrangement, community membership, or private conversation should not be shared publicly without permission unless disclosure is required by law or necessary to address an immediate safety concern.
Please review the NeighborLink Privacy Notice for more information about how information is handled within the platform.
11. Minors and Student Volunteers
Some NeighborLink communities may include students or youth volunteers.
Schools, churches, nonprofit organizations, parents, guardians, and community administrators remain responsible for following their own policies and applicable laws regarding minors.
NeighborLink should not be used to arrange inappropriate unsupervised activities involving minors.
12. Volunteer Service Records
NeighborLink may record completed volunteer activities and confirmed service hours.
These records are intended to document activity recorded through NeighborLink.
A NeighborLink volunteer-hours report or service-verification document is not a government certification, professional credential, employment reference, background check, or guarantee that an outside organization will accept the hours.
13. No Guarantee of Help or Availability
Posting a help request does not guarantee that a volunteer will respond or that assistance will be available.
Similarly, responding as a volunteer does not guarantee that the requester will accept the offer.
Community members make their own decisions about whether to request, offer, accept, or provide assistance.
14. Relationship Between Users
NeighborLink provides a platform for community members to connect.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, volunteers are not employees, agents, or representatives of NeighborLink.
NeighborLink does not direct the manner in which individual volunteer tasks are performed.
15. Service Availability
NeighborLink may change, add, remove, suspend, or discontinue features as the platform develops.
We cannot guarantee that the website will always be available without interruption or error.
16. Account and Community Actions
Accounts, community memberships, requests, messages, or other activity may be restricted when necessary to protect users, address misuse, maintain platform security, or enforce these guidelines.
Community administrators may also approve, reject, or manage memberships within communities they administer.
17. Reporting Concerns
If you believe a NeighborLink user is misusing the platform or creating an unsafe situation, contact the appropriate community administrator or NeighborLink administrator.
For an immediate emergency or threat, contact emergency services rather than relying on NeighborLink.
18. Changes to These Terms
NeighborLink may update these Terms of Use and Community Guidelines as the service develops.
Updated terms will be posted on this page.
